Using mathematical morphology to determine left ventricular contours.

چکیده
The aim of this study is to investigate the use of mathematical morphology for the determination of left ventricular contours in scintigraphic images using multigated radionuclide angiography. We have developed a completely automatic method that first restores the image with a Wiener filter, then finds the region where the left ventricle is contained, and finally segments the left ventricle contour and a background zone. The contours depend on the values of the parameters that appear in the mathematical morphology method, which are related to the height and the slope of the count distribution. Results obtained with this method are compared with the contours and the background zones outlined by experts on the basis of the number of counts. We study the values of the parameters with which the optimum correlation is obtained.

The morphologic and functional study of cardiovascular system is of vital importance because problems related to this system are one of the main causes of mortality in the world. It is important to mention that the left ventricle (VI) is the most susceptible to suffer severe damage, in diseases, such as arterial hypertension, mellitus diabetes or arteriosclerosis. This article presents a new me...
متن کامل3D Reconstruction Using Cubic Bezier Spline Curves and Active Contours (Case Study)
Introduction 3D reconstruction of an object from its 2D cross-sections (slices) has many applications in different fields of sciences such as medical physics and biomedical engineering. In order to perform 3D reconstruction, at first, desired boundaries at each slice are detected and then using a correspondence between points of successive slices surface of desired object is reconstructed. Mate...
متن کاملIntensity and Morphology-Based Energy Minimization for the Automatic Segmentation of the Myocardium
The extraction of significant cardiac functional parameters such as ejection fraction and wall thickening depends on reliable detection of myocardial contours. However, the manual contour tracing process is cumbersome, time-consuming, and operator-dependent. These limitations have motivated the development of automated segmentation techniques for accurate and reproducible left ventricular (LV) ...
متن کاملComparison of Endocardial Catheter Mapping with Intraoperative Mapping of Ventricular Tachyeardia
To validate the accuracy of catheter endocardial mapping to localize the origin of ventricular tachycardia (VT), we compared catheter endocardial mapping with intraoperative epicardial and endocardial mapping of 24 morphologically distinct VTs in 18 patients undergoing surgery. Twelve had VT with left bundle branch block morphology and 12 had VT with right bundle branch block morphology. Cathet...
متن کاملNormal Value of Left Ventricular End-Systolic Elastance in Infants and Children
Background: In certain conditions, there is a need for a specific and improved measure of cardiac performance. Routine methods for assessing left ventricular (LV) function are based on image-analysis or right heart monitoring which do not allow evaluation of ventriculo-arterial interaction. Chen et al presented a noninvasive method allowing measurement of end-systolic pressure–volume relation ...
